Thee Old Night Reviews

"The project was born from the imagination and creativity of Erik Sugg, who was the leader, singer and guitarist of Demon Eye for three albums and an EP. Now dissolved, the combo from Raleigh, NC, has left very good memories to Heavy Doom fans and can even be ranked alongside the legends of the genre. But even if there are still some doom-like touches in the songwriter, it is a completely different path that he takes here by diving into his deep musical roots, made of psychedelic elements, slightly bluesy Folk and classic country with an enveloping and, ultimately, quite comforting darkness. Thee Old Night has nothing gloomy and does not bathe in absolute sadness either. On the contrary, there is something contemplative and meditative in THEE OLD NIGHT." - ROCKNFORCE (France)

"Thee Old Night harkens back to a time that never was. Deep Americana Folk is entwined with Doom and Psychedelia to make a heady brew as the nights grow colder and darker." - CLEAN AND SOBER STONER

"Neofolk drawing from the likes of Wovenhand and Johnny Cash‘s American recordings. Thee Old Night set themselves up for a multifaceted growth around the songs, which carry the solidity that Sugg has brought to numerous projects to new and differently-engaging places. There’s songwriting at work here, and the album is about more than the atmosphere that nonetheless emerges from its tracks." - THE OBELISK

"Masterminded by The Magpie/ex-Demon Eye’s Erik Sugg with a couple other players in the mix, Thee Old Night’s self-titled debut is a trip into Appalachian dark folk. The atmosphere is evocative of a late summer/early fall night out in the sticks, casting an ominous yet welcoming aura with layers of echoing rustic instrumentation. Influences from artists like Nick Cave and Mark Lanegan are no doubt apparent and one could find parallels with the solo works from fellow doomers like Dax Riggs and Dorthia Cottrell." - Chris Latta, Ghost Cult Magazine.

"Dark pagan, backwoodsian folk incantations." - Steve Krakow, The Chicago Reader
